1. Ubud, Indonesia
Ubud offers stone temples and endless rice paddies perfect for backpackers. One of Bali’s major arts and culture centers has developed a large tourism industry.
2. Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s busy capital, sits at the junction of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers. It was a hub for both the Khmer Empire and French colonialists. On its walkable riverfront, lined with parks, restaurants, and bars, is the ornate Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum, displaying artifacts from around the country.
3. Guizhou, China
Guizhou is a mountainous province in southwest China. It’s known for its ancient rural villages, traditionally inhabited by minority groups like the Miao and Dong. It’s also famed for its 74m-high Huangguoshu Waterfalls.

The 2018 Winter Olympics is coming to S Korea so a place called Yongpyong is widely considered the best ski resort, with 13 lifts plus a gondola.

Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province, is known as the southern terminus of the ancient Grand Canal waterway, originating in Beijing. Its West Lake, celebrated by poets and artists since the 9th century, encompasses islands (reachable by boat), temples, pavilions, gardens, and arched bridges.
